Update from Cambridge International on May/June 2020 exams

The situation with the Covid-19 outbreak is changing rapidly. In recent days, many more countries have decided to extend school closures into May and June, making it impossible for many of our schools to hold examinations.

We have been consulting closely with our global community of schools, who need as much certainty as possible at an uncertain time. Our priority is to protect the safety and wellbeing of our students and teachers, ensure fairness for all our students and support them in continuing with their education.

Today, therefore, we have taken the difficult decision not to run our international examinations in the May/June 2020 series in any country. This includes Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level, Cambridge International AS & A Level, Cambridge AICE Diploma and Cambridge Pre-U.

We recognize that students have been working very hard towards these exams. We will be working with schools to assess students’ achievements using the best available evidence. Students will receive a grade and a certificate from Cambridge International, given the knowledge and skills they have acquired in their programmes of study. This will ensure students do not face disadvantage as a result of these extraordinary circumstances.

We will provide guidance to schools on how students will receive those grades. We are talking to universities worldwide, and they are factoring these unprecedented circumstances into admissions decisions, so students can continue with their education journeys as soon as possible.

We are also aware of the impact the situation may have on student motivation and learning. Many of our schools are working hard to deliver teaching online to support their students’ learning. We will continue to offer a wide range of support and resources for schools, teachers and students on our dedicated pages on our website at www.cambridgeinternational.org

We will provide an update for schools on Thursday 26 March and as regularly as possible. We know that schools will need clear guidance very soon, and we are working around the clock on how to deliver valuable outcomes to students in the many countries where we work.

ACESA is pleased to announce the establishment of the:

“ACESA Sports and Culture League” for ACESA member schools.

Sporting disciplines envisaged include:

  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Cricket
  • Cross country
  • Netball
  • Basketball
  • Action Frisbee

Cultural activities envisaged include:

  • Chess
  • Choir
  • Debating
  • Public Speaking
  • Spelling Bee

If the league works with the above codes, we will look to expand the offering going forward as there are still many other sports and cultural activities that could be added.

The league will operate in age groups and focus as far as possible on six-a-side sports so that schools can enter various age groups.

Come along to the AGM and find out more about this exciting offering!

Association of Cambridge Educators in Southern Africa

Association of Cambridge Educators of Southern Africa represents a united voice on behalf of member schools to Cambridge Assessment International Education. We aim to assist principals, schools and educators in offering Cambridge qualifications in a Sub-Saharan African context.

Why Cambridge?

Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and qualifications for 5 to 19 year olds, and forms part of the University of Cambridge. As a world leader in providing international programmes and qualifications for school education, we are expanding our international team in Sub-Saharan Africa. Having a dedicated local team is an important part of supporting our growing community of almost 900 Cambridge schools.

How do we assist Southern African Cambridge Member Schools?

We encourage all ACESA teachers to share their knowledge, expertise and experience by participating in the ACESA Subject Discussion Groups, training courses and workshops that have been created specifically for this purpose. This allows all our members to exchange ideas and knowledge with their colleagues across regions, schools and subject areas, to ensure that we harness a methodology of continuous improvement and innovation amongst ourselves as best-practice global practitioners and teachers.

How do our students benefit?

  • Internationally recognised qualifications with a focus on depth of study
  • Accepted  by tertiary institutions locally and abroad

Congratulations!

On behalf of ACESA, we congratulate our Cambridge Outstanding Awards winners who have excelled nationally and internationally, achieving First in South Africa and First in the World awards.

Among many subjects and examinations, we celebrate: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Accounting, Business Studies, Biology, Art & Design and Music.
